The Liberian National Museum presents 'Liberia in 1932, photographed by Paul Julien', an exhibition with photographs, film and text made by Dutch anthropologist Paul Julien who traveled through Liberia in August 1932. The exhibition was put together by researcher and artist Andrea Stultiens as part of a larger research into Julien's work. Stultiens hopes that the Liberian audience will like the bits and pieces of the past presented by Julien, but also that they will be able and willing to add their stories to what they see.
The exhibition will be opened on Saturday, July 19 at noon with the official program starting 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. During the afternoon there will be performances by The Small Town International Cultural Troupe and by Toni Kerdoe. Invited by Stultiens, Mr. Kerdoe is a story teller from Bong County who has added the story of King Quai Dokie to his collection of hundreds of Liberian stories. There will also be a regular sceening of Julien’s silent film footage from his visits to Liberia.
Take Two by Flomo Theatre
Another version of Julien's film material, with sound based on interviews with prominent Liberian historians and additional contemporary film footage is made by Flomo Theatre and will be screened for the first time on July 26, Independence Day. Until then the original footage will be screened.
The exhibition will be on display until August 19th and open daily.
